Specify effects to be added to or removed from the current default subterm. If a sign (+/-) does not precede the first effect, it is assumed that the effect is to be added to the model. To indicate that an effect is to be dropped from the model, precede it with a minus sign. The current model is designated as the null model, the updated model is fit, and the likelihood ratio test statistic, degrees of freedom, and P-value are written to the log.
Although the program can detect some invalid tests, that is, a test with zero degrees of freedom, or a test in which the sign of the statistic and degrees of freedom are not the same, it is the user’s responsibility to insure that the models being compared are nested to insure the validity of the computed test.
