Categorical variables have a number of uses in EPICURE. One of the most common uses involves stratification of summary statistics using the BY subcommand. Examples include:
SUM cases ; BY sex @
MEAN dose ; BY sex dcat @
FREQ dcat ; BY sex @
In these examples, dcat and sex are assumed to be categorical variables. In the MEAN example, mean doses will be computed for each combination of levels of sex and dcat.
